It can be overwhelming just to watch the news for a few minutes or to  have simple conversation while in the checkout line  without hearing negativity spouting from the other person. A great stress reliever and… Continue reading Wellness Wednesday: Thankfulness Journal

The Holiday season is upon us and it can be stressful. Plenty of family gatherings will be smiles laced with disappoints and hurt. Although your can’t for someone else to resolve their issue, you can however working resolving your own. Mental catharsis is the process of purging your mind of emotions that you may find stressful. There are often times in which we are in situations in which we may not have gotten the opportunity to truly vent our feelings, whether its out of shyness or just remaining silent to keep the peace for the sake of everyone else. However bottling our feelings can result in physical manifestations like loss of sleeps, stomach ulcers, sore muscles, headaches and so much more. Part of maintaining our physical well-being is maintaining our mental wellness. Writing down a list of the hurts that you have chronicled at the forefront of your mind onto a sheet a paper can be a very cathartic way to release yourself from them. Another step that is also beneficial is to take that same list and to trash it.  The symbolic process is a way of purging your mind of that hurt, and hence benefiting your body. This is not a replacement for seeking professional help, however you may find it to be very beneficial. Stop re-living the same frustrations and hurts. Try it out today. Happy health and happy savings!! 🙂

Wellness Wednesday: Caring for Yourself Helps You Better Care for Others

Caring for yourselfSelf care consists of the actions that you use to take care of your physical, mental, and emotional health. Self care is unique for everyone. Good self care is a challenge for many people and it can be especially challenging for survivors of interpersonal violence and abuse. When you have a lack of self care it can lead to other problems. Problems like burnout. Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed and unable to meet constant demands. As the stress continues, you began to lose interest or motivation that led you to take on a certain role in the first place.

Burnout reduces your productivity and saps your energy, leaving you feeling increasingly helpless, hopeless, cynical, and resentful.  Eventually you may feel like you have nothing more to give. Also without good self care it can also bring about compassion fatigue. Compassion Fatigue is a state experienced by those helping people or animals in distress, it is an extreme state of tension and preoccupation with the suffering of those being helped to the degree that it can create a secondary traumatic stress for the helper. While the effects of Compassion Fatigue can cause pain and suffering, learning to recognize and manage its symptoms is the first step toward healing. Say Goodbye to Smoothie King and Hello to Money Saved

Spinach SmoothieRight now we are in the part of the year where a lot of us begin to start working out in an attempt to achieve the oft sought after beach body. The reality of the matter is that good health is something we should prioritize all year long instead of right before the warmer seasons. It can be challenging to get started. A great way to start is to add some healthy options into your diet. Our energy levels are directly affected by the foods we eat. Dr. Don Colbert pointed out the necessity of eating living foods versus dead food to promote good health. Living foods would be things like fruits and vegetables while dead foods would be heavily processed items like potatoes chips and candy.

We all know that it is important to eat a variety of healthy foods in order to get the full spectrum of nutrition our beautiful bodies need. Sometimes with our busy schedules it can be very challenging to ensure we are eating a wide variety of healthy foods.

Ultimately, I would love to see each of you adopt a determined attitude to place your personal health at the top of your list. With great health it is easier to enjoy life, family friends, and having great health is a great money saver. One of the easiest way to get a wide variety of healthy foods into your diet is to blend them together into a smoothie. Smoothies can be very expensive when you purchase them from places like Jamba Juice and Smoothie King. However you guys know I am all for saving some money and streamlining our finances; so Jamba Juice and Smoothie King are out of the question!! The cost per week for smoothies from the aforementioned can quickly begin to add up. I’d rather see you better allocate your funds elsewhere. There are some great alternatives to purchasing smoothies. There are a lot of great blenders, food processors, and smoothie makers out there now that will allow you to make your smoothie at home for significantly less cost than going to Smoothie king. Range of motion

Physical fitness is extremely important. Before working on getting fit, its important to work on our range of motion. Range of motion is the full range that your joints have the potential to move. For example, due to years of not stretching or injury some people may notice they have trouble bending over and touching their toes without bending their knees or extending their arms upwards without bending their elbows. My grandmother has been and avid gardener since I can remember. One day while sitting on my grandmother’s porch with a few people, someone complained about their knees and another about their hips. As we all know that one complaint leads to another complaint. Continue reading “Wellness Wednesday”
