Whether it’s plain with a bit of butter, covered in gravy, fried with veggies, or made into a paella. I love rice.!!! It’s a staple throughout the world and comes in a lot of varieties like wild, jasmine, basmati, brown and parboiled. Whether short, medium or long grained, its likely you will eat a meal this week that will have rice as one of it components. I try to make it a practice to always cook extra rice.
It’s a major time saver in cases where the rice is going to be covered in some kind of tasty stir fry, gravy or fried with veggies.
I like to freeze the rice in freezer-safe bags and defrost it when I am ready to use. Re-heating is easy as easy as 1-2-3. Having some rice leftover can make a little-bit of another leftover into a full meal. It has happened to me often, in the middle of the night I would want to eat the last bit of left over chili or even the last bit of marinara sauce and would add a bit of rice to make it a sizable meal.
The Steps are Easy
1. Cook rice– Follow the package directions
2. Cool & Freeze Rice– Wait until the rice is completely cooled before putting it into a freezing-safe bag or Tupperware
**To make things even easier, the rice can be frozen into single servings using smaller bags and then store the smaller bags into a larger freezer-safe bag
3. Defrost & Reheat- There are a few options:
-Steam it. Add some water to the bottom of the steamer pot and the rice to the steamer insert and heat (be careful to not over steam otherwise the rice will become soggy)
-Microwave it. Simply place the rice into a microwave safe container with a tablespoon of water sprinkled on the top
-Sautee/Fry it. -Sautee rice in a little olive oil/butter in a wide pan, this is a great option for your favorite fried rice recipe.
4. Smile– Smile at how awesome you are!! 🙂
