1 Remedy to Combat Depression

Drepression editExercise has so many health benefits, but the one I would like to focus on today is reducing depression. WannaTalk2Us is dedicated to streamlining the various aspects of your life that will contribute to your overall well-being. Depression is something that seems to strike each of us from time to time. You may have experienced depression or you may know someone who has experienced depression. Depression not only affects the host but everyone surrounding that person. It is harder to work, interact with people, tend to our families, and so much more when overtaken by depression. You may think that the mental state of depression is just that, a mental state.

The mental state of depression sometimes has physical manifestations such as un-wanted weight gain or weight loss due to a change in one’s eating habits.

Depression can also take away from focusing on properly managing finances or even over-spending. There are so many ramifications to depression and there are lots of Continue reading “1 Remedy to Combat Depression”

Say Goodbye to Smoothie King and Hello to Money Saved

Spinach SmoothieRight now we are in the part of the year where a lot of us begin to start working out in an attempt to achieve the oft sought after beach body. The reality of the matter is that good health is something we should prioritize all year long instead of right before the warmer seasons. It can be challenging to get started. A great way to start is to add some healthy options into your diet. Our energy levels are directly affected by the foods we eat. Dr. Don Colbert pointed out the necessity of eating living foods versus dead food to promote good health. Living foods would be things like fruits and vegetables while dead foods would be heavily processed items like potatoes chips and candy.

We all know that it is important to eat a variety of healthy foods in order to get the full spectrum of nutrition our beautiful bodies need. Sometimes with our busy schedules it can be very challenging to ensure we are eating a wide variety of healthy foods.

Ultimately, I would love to see each of you adopt a determined attitude to place your personal health at the top of your list. With great health it is easier to enjoy life, family friends, and having great health is a great money saver. One of the easiest way to get a wide variety of healthy foods into your diet is to blend them together into a smoothie. Smoothies can be very expensive when you purchase them from places like Jamba Juice and Smoothie King. However you guys know I am all for saving some money and streamlining our finances; so Jamba Juice and Smoothie King are out of the question!! The cost per week for smoothies from the aforementioned can quickly begin to add up. I’d rather see you better allocate your funds elsewhere. There are some great alternatives to purchasing smoothies. There are a lot of great blenders, food processors, and smoothie makers out there now that will allow you to make your smoothie at home for significantly less cost than going to Smoothie king. That’s it Thursday: Quenching Thirst

Water pitcherI always try my best to be as hospitable as possible. “Would you like something to drink? I have tea, juice, coffee, and water.” Most times it never fails, in which they will ask for water. I am not sure if they are attempting to be polite and maybe somewhere in the back of their mind they believe water is the easier choice or the healthiest choice. So let me preface this by saying, I do not have a problem with giving my guest bottled water. I have a problem with giving them each a cold bottle of water for them to only take two sips from it. I have learned from my mistakes and will no longer allow myself to have partially consumed bottles of water left behind after my guests have departed. I usually take the leftover water and use it to water my plants in an effort to not be wasteful. I have come up with a simple solution. I now pour glasses of filtered water instead of offering bottled water to my guest.  The trick  is to use medium-sized glasses and a pretty water pitcher. A simple elegant setup that would be reminiscent of a social scene from your favorite soap-opera or television show. Why medium-sized glasses? Well it’s a three little bears scenario: the small glass is too small and the large glass is too big, but the medium size glass is just right. What if my guest is really thirsty? The simple solution for an empty glass is to fill it again. Having the water pitcher handy makes it inviting for your guest to pour themselves more water as well. Use a water pitcher, save water, save bottles, and save money!!!

Range of motion

Physical fitness is extremely important. Before working on getting fit, its important to work on our range of motion. Range of motion is the full range that your joints have the potential to move. For example, due to years of not stretching or injury some people may notice they have trouble bending over and touching their toes without bending their knees or extending their arms upwards without bending their elbows. My grandmother has been and avid gardener since I can remember. One day while sitting on my grandmother’s porch with a few people, someone complained about their knees and another about their hips. As we all know that one complaint leads to another complaint. Continue reading “Wellness Wednesday”

Money Saving Monday: Selling Yourself

You may be wondering why this Money Saving Monday post is titled “Selling Yourself.” The skill of selling yourself can be a major money maker and saver. Speaking from first hand experience, colleges typically do no teach you how to sell yourself or how to market yourself. In school, we learn the skills needed in order to carry out our profession. However at no point does anyone tell you how to better market yourself and sell yourself (your persona) to someone else. Part of selling yourself is to make a great first impression. Regardless to what you may have on your resume, your resume is a piece of paper that everyone is not going to see. Besides, your resume is not needed when you are trying to make a deal, people are cutting you a deal based on the person that they are looking at right now.

When you first introduce yourself to anyone, you are making an impression whether good or bad.  We all will come across times where we will do interviews, need to bargain, become business owners, or seek out ambitious opportunities. All of the aforementioned  require some form of human interaction. Be aware that your impression is not limited to those aforementioned arenas, you may meet another parent, a salesperson, a repair person, etc.  The impression you make can make the difference between getting hired, making a deal, getting your child added to the car pool or the repair person cutting you deal because you are so personable. You selling yourself to make a great impression will determine whether you are remembered, immediately forgotten and/or deemed unappealing. Continue reading “Money Saving Monday: Selling Yourself”

Eliminate Your Distractions by Being the Flow

I know from my own experience that there are so many things that want my attention. Family, friends, business, pets and those pesky alerts from our electronic devices. If you are like me and are trying to get focused on a project, then you fully get the importance of eliminating distractions. There are plenty of articles that will tell you to find a quiet place. To turn off your devices and to get away from it all. You have heard that kind of advice numerous times. Yes, I will agree it is practical if you can achieve that pristine morning silence. Yes, I will agree there are plenty of task that require your dedicated attention. Despite the aforementioned, I have also discovered overtime that taking time to eliminate distractions can sometime become a distraction within itself. Sometimes it about being in the flow. Bruce Lee has a famous quote about being like water:

“You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.”

This awesome quote can apply to every aspect of life. But for our needs today it demonstrates that it easier to go with the flow rather than fighting against them. I sometimes find myself planning to wake up extra early so I can take care of a few task without distractions. Continue reading “Eliminate Your Distractions by Being the Flow”
