The sales-person at a department store, your cable provider, and the local carpet cleaning company all have one major thing in common. All of the aforementioned businesses plus many others want to have you as a repeat customer. They also want you to share your awesome experience and advertise for them whether it is by word of mouth or social media. It’s that simple, however, they are in the business of making money. They typically are not going to voluntarily just give their potential profits away. Why should they? Businesses have no incentive to provide you with a good or service at a rock bottom price. The advertised bargain typically is enough to draw in more potential customers. There are however more bargains and deals that can be acquired besides the advertised ones.
I have seen my father utilize this secret time and time again. Are you ready for it? Simply ask for a better deal. I am not talking about the art of haggling. It’s as simple as asking the nice person behind the counter at the department store if there is a better deal you can give me on my purchase? Usually, the answer will be yes. Cable, phone and internet providers are known for giving you a better deal if you threaten to cancel your service however, they often times have discounts that they can give you, but the sales agent can’t offer them. Sadly you have to ask for them, you may have to run down a list of questions before you get your deal. A lot of sales agents are fully aware of what discounts they can give, but are not allowed to inform you that there are great discounts right there in your grasp. You may have to shine the spotlight on them and briefly interrogate them in the nicest fashion. You can ask if there is a loyalty discount, senior discount, college student discount, veterans discounts, or even an income based discount.
If you have a service with a lot extra fees, try asking if the fees can be waived, you’ll be surprised at how often you will be told yes. Any possibilities that you could think of would be beneficial. Remember to be nice and personable. I have gotten quite a few “Because I like you ” deals. My father has worked as a business owner and sales professional for years he is fully aware that there is almost always a better deal to be acquired. I have seen him get a plethora of not just great deals but even freebies simply because he chooses to be friendly and opens his mouth to ask for a deal. Try it!!
