Right now we are in the part of the year where a lot of us begin to start working out in an attempt to achieve the oft sought after beach body. The reality of the matter is that good health is something we should prioritize all year long instead of right before the warmer seasons. It can be challenging to get started. A great way to start is to add some healthy options into your diet. Our energy levels are directly affected by the foods we eat. Dr. Don Colbert pointed out the necessity of eating living foods versus dead food to promote good health. Living foods would be things like fruits and vegetables while dead foods would be heavily processed items like potatoes chips and candy.
We all know that it is important to eat a variety of healthy foods in order to get the full spectrum of nutrition our beautiful bodies need. Sometimes with our busy schedules it can be very challenging to ensure we are eating a wide variety of healthy foods.
Ultimately, I would love to see each of you adopt a determined attitude to place your personal health at the top of your list. With great health it is easier to enjoy life, family friends, and having great health is a great money saver. One of the easiest way to get a wide variety of healthy foods into your diet is to blend them together into a smoothie. Smoothies can be very expensive when you purchase them from places like Jamba Juice and Smoothie King. However you guys know I am all for saving some money and streamlining our finances; so Jamba Juice and Smoothie King are out of the question!! The cost per week for smoothies from the aforementioned can quickly begin to add up. I’d rather see you better allocate your funds elsewhere. There are some great alternatives to purchasing smoothies. There are a lot of great blenders, food processors, and smoothie makers out there now that will allow you to make your smoothie at home for significantly less cost than going to Smoothie king.
Making smoothies is as simple as purchasing some of your favorite fruits and veggies and blending them together with some ice. Ice can be bypassed if you choose to freeze your produce first. For example, I personally love to freeze my strawberries. Strawberries are extremely perishable, so freezing them is an easy way I can ensure they do not go bad before I need them. Strawberries are so yummylicious in smoothies!! Keep in mind smoothies give you a reason to use some of the produce you may have frozen in the past. You guys know I love to save some money, so using your produce to make smoothies is a great way to reduce waste rather than letting it sit there in the crisper going bad. There are few companies than also sale pre-cut and pre-frozen produce in the freezer section of your local grocer. I am a huge fan of doing things myself from scratch. It is always going to be more cost effective for you to buy the produce and clean and cut them yourself than buying it already done. However, I still recommend the smoothie ready frozen produce that is sold in the freezer section. If you are frequent reader then you know that is totally out of the ordinary for me to say. But the average bag of frozen smoothie- ready-produce usually is about $7 per bag which can yield 3-4 smoothies. One large smoothie alone from Smoothie King or Jamba juice can cost about $7 !!! So you will definitely get a lot of bang for your buck with out the extra prep work. My favorite quick smoothie from scratch consists of lots of spinach, avocado, and apple juice. I love it? You can add as much or as little of the ingredients you prefer. Create your own blends or better yet recreate your favorite smoothie that you were perhaps purchasing from a smoothie shop. Happy Savings and Happy Health!
